Decisions made in Year 9 will have a big impact on future careers. It is very important that when considering the courses on offer pupils make selections that will help them, as an individual, after leaving school. For some pupils these decisions may appear easy. At Clifton we are committed to all pupils having a broad, balanced curriculum that will allow an individual to achieve the best they can.
It is important to have a range of subjects as pupils change their minds about careers. We believe that it is essential that pupils receive appropriate advice about the options available. A number of teachers will work closely with pupils helping to explain the options available. This will help meet the needs of individual pupil’s ability in planning their career.
Key Stage 4 courses vary in delivery but all have equal status in the workplace, Further Education and Higher Education. We will offer GCSEs, Vocational GCSEs, Diplomas and Certificates. The wide range of courses also provide a variety of styles of lessons, helping to keep courses interesting.
Choice can be a challenge, but help is available from teachers and the Connexions team. We hope you will be ambitious and aim high meeting the need for skilled people in the growing industries in Rotherham and South Yorkshire.
A meeting for parents, carers and pupils will take place on Thursday 12th January 2006 at 6.30pm in the Performance Hall to explain the process, the importance of SATs and answer any individual concerns.
The guidance booklet gives information about each course offered in Key Stage 4. Descriptions of what will be studied and how pupils will be assessed are provided. It is important that pupils read these and discuss them with teachers, guidance staff and their family. Pupils will need to make choices which are right for their interests, learning styles, ability and future career.
