The Mathematics Curriculum at KS3 follows the National Numeracy Strategy, and covers the following areas, number, algebra, shape space and measure, handling data, using and applying mathematics.

A variety of teaching and learning approaches are used including paired work, practical work and ICT.

Pupils are set in all years and follow a scheme of work appropriate to their needs, there is regular assessment and from Year 7 onwards pupils are fully aware of the level at which they are working.

In Y9 there is a dedicated lesson each week that is used for SATs revision. In Y9 pupils also have the opportunity to attend revision sessions and purchase revision guides.

The SAT's assessment is made up of 2 one hour examinations, one calculator and one non calculator, together with a mental test. The levels of entry are 6-8, 5-7, 4-6 and 3-5 and pupils are entered for the appropriate level.

“Standards are rising and pupils are achieving well overall. GCSE results are improving quickly. The school has very many more strengths than weaknesses ” - OFSTED 2005
