A suite of 27 Apple eMac computers paired with MIDI keyboards, Roland sound modules and M-Audio interfaces allow pupils to record, arrange, develop and mix their compositions and performances using Garageband and Logic Express.

The room is overseen by the teachers G5 Mac running Garageband and Logic Express. The computer is linked to each pupil keyboard so pupils playing can be monitored by speakers or recorded either individually, in groups or the entire class as an ensemble.

This revolutionary program from Apple has been a huge hit with the pupils working in the music ICT rooms. Installed on every machine the program allows pupils to create, record , arrange and mix a wide variety of music. Pupils have access to a huge range of sounds that they can play from the MIDI keyboard, use pre-recorded high quality loops or a combination of both. The computers also have built in microphones for recording of voice, guitar, etc making each computer workstation a stand alone recording studio!

The key advantage for the school is Garageband is very straightforward to use and allows pupils to focus on the music rather than the technology.

Widely used in the music industry, Logic is viewed by many as the most powerful software for audio production and composition. Logic Express enables more adventurous pupils to do everything they can with Garageband but with more precision, control and flexibility.

Situated in the new Clifton Campus the recording studio consists of a control room connected with 2 separate recording areas enabling both solo and group performances to be recorded quickly and easily. The studio is powered by a powerful Protools system, the industry standard for recording, enabling pupils performances and compositions to be produced to a professional standard.
