ACE dance and music is proud to present its new touring production Skin, touring from autumn 2007 until spring 2008. SKIN will use captivating physical expression to discover what makes us function as human beings. Six robust and agile dancers explore the signals we give out as individuals. From the outside we look different, but underneath, aren’t we all the same? This powerful double bill features an original music score, percussive sound-scape and rich vocals. Digital projection, new technology and live effects complete the full-bodied experience. ACE dance and music is a multi-cultural company and in Skin they draw from African, Caribbean, European and Japanese dance styles. ACE dance and music aims to reflect the fusion of cultures that characterises contemporary Britain. Gail Parmel, ACE dance and music’s Artistic Director will work in collaboration with two internationally renowned choreographers Akiko Kitamura from the Leni-Basso Dance Company of Japan and Vincent Mantsoe from Soweto, South Africa. With ACE dance and music South African born Vincent Mantsoe, uncovers his experiences of being born and raised in a transforming South Africa. Does the colour of your skin determine your level of acceptance and rights, your stand within society? With Akiko Kitamura, the company investigates what lies beneath the skin? A frenetic, multitude of pathways carries not only blood and oxygen but also vital information, emotions and ultimately our humanity. The piece aims to achieve a synergy between technology and movement to highlight the unseen and invisible force and flow of feelings that defines us.
