Sport is a particular strength at Clifton. Our contact with pupils is established in the Junior schools through the School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCO) programme.
Clifton staff and students, guided by the SSCO, help coach and organise Junior school pupils. Festivals in a range of sports help our prospective pupils meet, compete and have fun together. We invest a great deal of time, expertise and resources into a variety of sports at Clifton. We run successful teams across all age groups in:
- Football (boys and girls teams!)
- Rounders
- Cross-country
- Rugby
- Netball
- Cricket
- Athletics
- Basketball
- Hockey
In all we organise almost 50 teams throughout the year and compete in 100 school
fixtures!
Our philosophy is clear, everyone is welcome to come along to training. If pupils try and show the right attitude they will represent the school. We set high standards of behaviour for our representatives and this is recognised, and applauded, throughout the area.
Links with local sports clubs across all sports help to develop pupils— talents.
This is why so many of our young people go on to represent Rotherham,
South Yorkshire and their country.
In recent years we have had pupils represent England at Rounders,
South Yorkshire at Athletics, Netball, Hockey and Rugby and Rotherham
at Football, Athletics, Netball, Hockey, Rugby, Table-tennis, Cricket
and Cross-country.
The PE course at KS3 follows a broad range of sports ranging from Football and Hockey to Dance and Orienteering. Girls and boys are taught separately for most units of work, however for some blocks e.g. Gymnastics, they are taught in mixed sex classes.
By using the Key Words system, we help to promote literacy in all lessons. Lessons follow a 3 part structure, with development seen from the starter, through the main sections of the lesson into the plenary. Each block of work is studied for a term.
All pupils follow the core curriculum in PE and are able to choose further study in physical education through vocational courses in BTEC First Diploma in Sports Studies or GCSE Sports Studies. ( See KS4 Options )
