Learning Support

Image of pupils Our colleagues in Learning Support forge strong links with their Junior school counterparts. Cross-phase projects within the Clifton Partnership cover Literacy, Numeracy and ICT to ensure that pupils receive a consistency of approach.

The Learning Support Area offers in-class support, small group work or one-to-one help for pupils identified as having Special Educational Needs or those with English as an additional language.

Image of pupil using computer All students with reading ages below 9.6 years at the start of Y7 are withdrawn for two hours per week to follow a literacy intervention programme. They are re-tested after ten weeks and re-grouped if necessary for further intervention or taken off the programme. Students are taught in groups of four by members of the learning support team.

A sympathetic assessment process allows pupils to have individualised intervention programmes. These will include access to a wide range of resources including computer software to help pupils with reading, writing, spelling, comprehension and numeracy skills. Parents will be regularly contacted regarding their child’s progress and will be advised on ways to support out of school work.

At KS4 pupils are offered a range of courses leading to accreditation in ICT, English, Science and Food Technology. We also offer pupils the opportunity to take part in the Asdan Youth Award Scheme.
